Eligibility for Assessment:

(i) Referral from a Regulatory Authority 

(ii) MCCEE and MCCQE Part 1 required; MCCQE Part 2 preferred

PART A - Assessment

1) Therapeutics Assessment

2) Clinical Assessment (OSCE):

  • clinical skills
  • diagnosis and problem definition
  • clinical reasoning and decision making
  • investigation and management
  • professional behaviour
  • communication skills

Report provided to
Regulatory Authority by CAPP

PART B – (in Nova Scotia)

  • Credentials Committee considers defined license

  • If license granted then:

    • Sponsor identified (DHA)
    • Mandatory orientation program
    • Initial phase (4 weeks)
    • Mentorship formalized (12 months)
    • CME needs identified and educational plan developed
    • On-going assessment by mentor
    • On-site assessment by external assessor at 4-6 months
    • Patient feedback survey at 10 months

After One Year

PART C – (in Nova Scotia) >

  • Continuation of defined licence, conditions and further follow-up decided following a review of all reports and assessments by the Credentials Committee
  • Multi-source feedback at 18 months
  • Reassessment as necessary
  • CME activities reviewed and ongoing and new needs identified
